I am a Vice President in the Investment Philosophy and Behavioral Finance team at Barclays Wealth. The team specialises in developing and implementing commercial applications of the psychology of judgement and decision making, and behavioral economics.
I have a BA (Distinction) in Economics from Boston University and an M.Sc. in Decision Science from the London School of Economics. My undergraduate honours thesis detailed how inclusion of wind-based energy could change the output profile of the electricity market, resulting in higher emissions and peak demand in the New England grid. My M.Sc. thesis provided a method for the elicitation and integration of expert opinions into hierarchical maps for the New Economics Foundation.
Between earning his B.A. and M.Sc. I was a health economics researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. My work focussed on the design of the “Part D” federal prescription drug benefit, and designing optimal monitoring patterns for high-risk patient populations.
After completing my M.Sc. I joined Chiliogon Ltd, an FSA authorised Corporate Finance Advisory and Investment Fund firm. My role in Chiliogon gave me invaluable experience in private-equity fund raising, IPO pricing, option pricing, and growth-business valuation.
Since joining Barclays Wealth in February 2007, I have been lucky to continue integrating my academic and commercial interests by researching, developing and implementing our tools to help individuals make better investment decisions. A highlight of current work is a unique long-term survey panel linking individual's financial personality dimensions to the decisions of active online traders.
I am a regular presenter at academic and industry conferences in both the USA and Europe, and an occasional lecturer in behavioural finance.
